Daily Devotional for Wednesday 13th March

Doing good to all

Galatians 6:1-6

When was the last time you admitted your sin to someone?

When was the last time someone pointed out a sin of yours to you?

Are these questions bringing up memories of gentleness and loving kindness from fellow Christians or possibly arguments with nasty undertones?

If your response was anything like mine, it took a few minutes to come to the conclusion that I couldn’t remember the last time it happened.

The times I can remember something similar happening weren’t all that gentle!!

This passage tells us to help each other and restore each other gently. We are to support and encourage each other – carry each other’s burdens. We need to accept help when it is offered as well as offering to help where we can.

But notice the warning too – watch yourself so you are not tempted. The thing with supporting others is when you’re helping to restore them, there is a danger they could persuade you that what they are doing isn’t actually wrong – “It’s not hurting anyone, therefore it’s OK!”  We need to be careful that we are not led to sin too.  We need to turn to God’s word for our moral compass to be the light to our path (Check out Psalm 119!)

Time to reflect…

In what scenarios can you imagine helping someone in the way it says in these verses?

Pray that God will guide you and support you in trying to live out the advice we see here.  Pray for sensitivity kindness, sincerity, grace, and love in all your conversations.

Pause to pray…

Father, we pray for us all – That we would be bold and humble at the same time to encourage and help our brothers and sisters at St John’s to live by the Spirit – to your praise and glory.

Amen.
