Daily Devotional for Wednesday 28th February
Following blindly
In today’s reading, we see Paul try another tactic and relate what he is trying to say in terms that the Galatians may understand better. This not only helps the Galatians to understand but also helps us when we read Paul’s letters today. Even many, many years later, these letters are relevant to us.
Paul goes on to explain how the covenants work and how sacred they are between the people making them. It is especially poignant to note that Paul specifies that Abraham’s covenant was not with many people, but with Abraham and with Christ alone “scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning to many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person who is Christ.”
Paul explains to the Galatians that just as Abraham followed blindly in faith, so must we, even if we don’t understand what’s happening or we can’t see the big picture. “…but God in His grace gave it (his inheritance) to Abraham through a promise.” This promise given to Abraham came so many years after Abraham through the death and resurrection of Jesus on the cross – but Abraham stayed faithful, showing that by staying faithful to God is the path to take.
Paul doesn’t shun the idea of the laws; he actually mentions that the laws were needed until Jesus had come to earth and been resurrected. The laws reveal God’s nature and show us how to live but they can also show us how sinful we can be. Paul stresses to the Galatians that God knew we were prisoners of sin, and that He would save us – and that would be through having faith in Jesus.
Time to reflect…
Do you follow God blindly, without having questions or reservations if you can’t see the end goal?
Pause to pray…
Heavenly Father,
Even though we sin, we thank you for giving us the chance to repent and live our lives how You wish us to live them. We are sorry for all we do wrong, and we pray that as our faith deepens with You, we can try to lead better lives than You intended.
In Jesus’ name, we pray
Amen.
