Daily Devotional for Wednesday 23rd October
Suffering for Being a Christian
In today's culture, Christianity seems more and more countercultural to people. Fewer people in our nation know who Jesus is, less than half of our nation wouldn’t identify as Christian and if you look on social media, it seems the big voices are bashing our faith. But take heart, this is a great opportunity for us because more people need to hear the gospel!
Peter talks about being insulted for Jesus. I don’t know about you but I’ve had my fair share of insults about my faith. We are called to be different from the world so sometimes that can confuse our colleagues because they don’t know Jesus. Peter says when we are mocked or insulted to “praise God that you bear his name”. I remembered being at school and one boy asked me “You don’t still go to that church thing on Sundays, do you?” I said yes and people laughed at me. It felt horrible at the time but looking back, I found this comfort that it didn’t matter what they thought of me or what I believed in because I knew my relationship with Christ Jesus was far greater than anything they would say to me. Apostle Peter even died on a cross upside down for what he believed in. I won’t be hoping for this to anyone, not even my worst enemy, but it makes you think. What am I prepared to do to see God’s kingdom come and save this nation?
Time to reflect…
How can we put ourselves in positions to see God’s kingdom come to earth? What should we do to prepare for people to meet with Jesus?
Pause to pray…
God, help us live for you and see your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. We want to see people saved by Jesus and I pray you use me as a vessel for your glory. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
