Daily Devotional for Friday 26th July

Go into All of the World

Mark 16:9-20

This section is often not talked about, preached on or used in devotionals as the passage itself is not very reliable. It is kept separate from the rest of Mark’s gospel.  However, that doesn’t mean we can’t learn some things from it, especially from the parts that are backed up by the other gospels. We see that Jesus appeared to His disciples on many occasions and gave them instructions. The most significant instruction is to ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation’. This echoes the command in Matthew 28 to ‘Go and make disciples of all nations’. And this is only possible because the curtain was torn in two.

Time to reflect…

Imagine you were one of the disciples at this point in Mark’s Gospel.

How much evidence or how many eyewitness statements do you think you would have needed to convince you about Jesus’ resurrection?

Pause for a moment…

We come to Him, our Priest and Apostle

Clothed in His glory and bearing His name

Laying our lives with gladness before Him

Filled with His Spirit we worship the King

O Holy One, our hearts do adore You

Thrilled with Your goodness we give You our praise

Angels in light with worship surround Him

Jesus, our Saviour, forever the same

(Jesus is King by Wendy Churchill)

Pause to pray…

Loving Heavenly Father, we thank you and praise you for sending Jesus to die in our place and rise again in order to take our punishment on Himself, bring us life, forgiveness, rescue and an eternal relationship with you. Please encourage us this day with your Gospel news and please renew our faith in you so that we may serve you and love you, building up your Church and telling others about you.

We pray that the power of Jesus’ resurrection and the way it shows Jesus always keeps His promises as Lord of all, would be a huge encouragement to us today.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
