Daily Devotional for Monday 16th September
Not alone
Isn’t it funny how we sometimes feel so alone in life? That’s not how God sees it! The passage today from Ephesians, chapter 2 verses 19-22, is only 4 verses, but in it we see that we are part of something much bigger than just one life.
When we put our faith in Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Saviour, we join His great, big, God family. This family is made up of God Himself, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and of every single believer who ever lived. So instead of feeling all alone, we should contemplate that we aren’t strangers or aliens, people who don’t belong, outsiders; instead, we are fellow citizens with all the other saints (those who have believed in Jesus). We belong to God’s family, and that family is built upon those who have gone before us, like Moses, Esther, Job, Mary Magdalene, Daniel, even unnamed believers like the shepherds out watching their sheep on the night Jesus was born, down to you and me, and those who will come after us. We all belong to God when we believe in Jesus. If we never had siblings in this natural world, we have a whole realm of brothers and sisters waiting to meet us in heaven!
Paul also says in this passage that this big, God family is built on the cornerstone/foundation of Jesus, the Son of God, Himself. Jesus made it possible for us to belong to each other and Him! He gave His own life to make that possible.
God’s plan is that we all fit into this big family together, like an intricate jigsaw puzzle, everyone with his and her own unique place to make the whole complete. Think about that! You were created and saved to fill an unique place in God’s family.
Time to reflect…
· With this in mind, how do we use these truths of God to combat the lie of loneliness or feeling alone?
· When we think about how we treat each other, we should remember that we need each other and that God values us the same. How can that affect how we interact with one another?
Pause to pray…
Dear Father God, thank you for loving us so much that You sent Your Son, Jesus, to die for us to belong to you and be a part of Your big, God family. Help us to love you and each other well, and to look after our God family. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
